There is a lot to see and do in Texas, since it is a huge state. Although it is two times bigger than California, Texas is 15 times smaller than the United States. That said, Texas has a number of popular cities, such as Dallas and Lubbock. I am just going to cover a few cities that have great shopping districts and other fun things to do.

  1. Houston — Not only is there a great shopping district, but there are some interesting exhibits in the museum district. For example, the Houston Natural Museum of Science offers diverse exhibits from fossils to gemstones. The Children’s Museum has many hands-on exhibits, including live-action spy games and Kidtropolis. A great family (or group) activity is the Fast Track Amusements. Get into a Formula 1 style go Kart to have some fun or play one of their arcade games. Don’t forget about the Space Center Houston! It is the official visitors center of NASA Johnson Space Center as well as a science and space exploration center.
  2. Austin — Known for its live-music scene, Austin also has a number of great restaurants and activities. If you love mysteries, you must do the Haunted Austin Adventure. It’s a GPS augmented reality game where you have to unlock clues to win. There is also the augmented reality scavenger hunt on Rainey Street. If you are into vintage, there is a big thrift scene from records to clothing.
  3. San AntonioThe Alamo is here, where 200 Texans, including Davy Crockett and James Bowie, defended it against the Mexicans in 1836. Experience the battle with a digital tour and current exhibitions, including the Phil Collins Collection. In addition to its rich history, San Antonio has great shopping and outdoor activities. The River Walk offers many restaurants and dining along the San Antonio River. You can take a ride on a river barge or explore on your own using the walking path. If you are into hiking and camping, the Government Canyon State National Park is nearby offering 40 miles of trails and 23 walk-in campsites.
  4. Galveston — An island city located on the Texas Gulf coast, you’ll find 32 miles of beautiful beaches, a historic pier and a diverse food scene. Take a walk along gorgeous Victorian mansions on your way to the Strand Historic District for shopping and fun. And Moody Gardens has a glass pyramid aquarium, a rainforest aquarium, a 4D Special FX theater and more.

These are just a few of the amazing cities in Texas. There is a lot to do and see all year long. However, it’s best to plan your trip now to get the best deals.
